Compression Fittings

Compression Fittings

Compression fittings are a common type of LDPE fittings that use a compression nut and ring to create a tight seal around the pipe or tubing. They are widely used for secure connections in plumbing and irrigation systems. LDPE pipe is very commonly used in micro-irrigation systems because it is easy to work with and is generally robust enough to withstand the rigours of gardening. It offers some flexibility due to its low-density, but corner connectors (elbows) are a good idea to prevent kinks in the pipe when navigating around the garden. It is possible to use barbed fittings to achieve a secure and leak-free seal, and there are options for compression fittings to use with LDPE pipe as well for an extra secure fit.

Types of Compression Fittings

Coupling

A coupling is a straight connector used to join two LDPE pipes or tubing together in a straight line.

Elbow

An elbow fitting allows for a change in direction of the LDPE pipe or tubing. Elbows are available in different angles, such as 90 degrees or 45 degrees, to accommodate different piping configurations.

Tee

A tee fitting has three openings, allowing the LDPE pipe or tubing to split into two different directions. It is commonly used to create branching connections in plumbing systems.

Reducer

A reducer fitting is used to connect LDPE pipes or tubing of different sizes. It typically has one end larger than the other to facilitate a smooth transition between the two pipe diameters.

Adapter

An adapter fitting is used to connect LDPE pipes or tubing to other types of pipes or fittings, such as threaded connections or different materials. It provides compatibility between different piping systems.

Valves

LDPE valves are used to control the flow of fluids in a plumbing system. They can be manually operated or actuated, allowing for the opening or closing of the flow path.

End Cap

An end cap fitting is used to seal the end of an LDPE pipe or tubing. It provides a tight closure and prevents the leakage of fluids or contaminants.

Barbed fittings

Barbed fittings feature a tapered barb that grips the LDPE pipe or tubing. They are commonly used with hose clamps to create a secure connection.
